SugarHouse - Movie Review
Tom (Steven Mackintosh) is a middle-class city boy whose life has reached breaking point. D (Ashley Walters) is a young crack-head: smart, witty, desperate. Tom is completely out of his depth when he finds himself in D's abandoned warehouse attempting to do a "deal" with the energetic, volatile drug addict. The two enter into an irrational, deadly game of cat and mouse. An independent film, that boasts a large selection of British actors new and old, from Steven Mackintosh to Adam Deacon. But these guys can only go so far to perform a script that offers more than it delivers, and at times feels tacky and pointless to say the least.
Each scene seems to go on for way too long, losing all potential to keep the audience interested, at time I often felt like this short hour and a half film was going on for ever, constantly repeating itself to the point where it actually became funny to watch. Not the intention of the director I’m guessing.
The best scenes defiantly come from Andy Serkis who plays the insane, tattoo covered Irish drug dealing king pin Hoodwink, a far cry from Lord of the Rings Smegul. His on screen presence carries most of the other actors throughout, but like them is still restricted to this poor script.
The film would have been passable as a decent short, with its solid plot and strong cast, but the lack of a coherent script and poorly developed scenes left it stuck, with nothing to do but repeat itself. So if you have an hour and half to kill why not give it a watch.
Foreign Vs American
Being a massive fan of the foreign horror movie industry, which creates so many great movies every year. It pains me to have to sit through re makes that having been made for a lazy western audience, desecrate the original . Dark, sinister and frightful films such as Takashi Shimizu master piece Ju-On(The grudge) often gets overlooked as American cinema decides that instead of creating a smart enticing storyline, they can just stick a load of b list celebs in it and it will have the same success as the original. But the truth is The grudge wasn’t half the film that the original was, but the fact that modern cinema goers would rather see the film in English and settle for a lousy excuse of a storyline, than take the time to sit back and enjoy a film in its original glory. It’s my opinion that watching a film such as Ringu (The Ring) in Japanese only adds to the appeal of the movie, I found that half way through the film I wasn’t even reading the subtitles anymore (being that I could hardly see the screen through my hands).
Having watched the Spanish movie [REC] for the first time I was adamant that not even the Americans could ruin this film. One of my favourite horror movies of all time, [REC] offered everything an audience could want out of a film, Superbly acted, brilliantly directed and absolutely bloody terrifying. Jumping on the bandwagon of Handheld camera shot films, [REC] perfectly captured the short, stripped-down, first-person horror movie that fans have been waiting for.
Then while surfing new film trailers I came upon a new film in the description it said “Television reporter Angela Vidal and her cameraman are assigned to spend the night shift with a Los Angeles Fire Station. After a routine 911 call takes them to a small apartment building, they find police officers already on the scene in response to blood curdling screams coming from one of the apartment”. Initiate face palm. It would seem that the shot by shot remake of [REC] had arrived. This movie managed to suck balls more than a cheap Asian hooker that doesn’t return my calls anymore, and earn its place in the hall of fame of bad Foreign to American films. Quarantine seemed to lack the gritty raw attitude of its original, trying too hard to throw screams at the audience they lacked in creating tension and building up a scene, basic film 101.
I’m not saying that the foreign film industry is full of amazing films and instant classics, as every so often films slip out of Europe that can be seen as more controversial cult films than cinematic masterpieces. I think you know where I’m going with this, so I’m just going to say it...The human Centipede. It’s not that it’s a bad film, it was hardly anywhere near as terrible as people made it out to be, it’s just that it could have been so much better. But the winner by far, one of the worst films to spawn from abroad has to be A Serbian film. I haven’t watched this personally but have heard from people that it’s a film that pushes the boundary way too far.
So while audiences still remain lazy. Expect these brilliant films to continue to be transformed and morphed into nothing more than a shell of their former self.
Peace out!
Recession Times
Basically sold out all my views and beliefs on advertising, just to make a measly few quid a week. Not a bad deal to be fair. Anyway going to start review all the legal ways to get high in a bid to get more views, hopefully people will want to read about how mashed up I can get off a selection of herbs and spices. first on my agenda, the bong any ideas on what type?

Misfits
As a massive fan of Channel 4s award winning TV show Misfits, I basically tripled myself then it was announced that series three was in production. But I was told today that Robert Sheehan won’t be returning for the third outing! After furiously searching for confirmation of this madness, it has been confirmed that Sheehan won’t be appearing in the third series and will be replaced by some character called Rudi. Casting for this new character is still ongoing. The worst part is that Nathan’s departure and Rudi’s arrival are said expected to be dealt with in short films posted on the E4 website before the third series begins. So they can’t even give Nathan a send off worthy of such a legend.
So is this it? One of the last bearable things on TV just lost its main appeal, without Nathan the show is destined for failure (unless they've got something genius lined up)
Peace out!

A Positive Drug Story
"Today, a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration – that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There's no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we're the imagination of ourselves"

Insidious - A fresh take on Modern Horror
Not being really that much a fan of the Modern horror, I mean id take House or The Entity over any so called modern horror . Before going to see Insidious, I had thoughts that it was just going to be another so called "jump a minute" film such as Boo, The Unborn, Drag me to hell and so on. All these are films I would recommend anyone to watch. But if you want a smart, suspenseful horror flick that offers up plenty of scares and the occasional laugh, Insidious is a must see.
Using the basis of two of the most legendary horror movies ever, The Exorcist and Poltergeist, this film is unlike any other horror the film industry has spat out over the recent years. With a deadly atmosphere from the opening scene and classic Japanese style horror look that has you chasing shadows from the outset, the film is a fresh take on today’s horror genre.
With Director James Wan (one of the guys who started the saw franchise) behind the wheel I had certain expectations that movie goers were going to be thrown in at the deep end so to speak when it came down to building suspense, but the frights are well delivered and never seem obvious or expected. One memorable scene to note, comes when spiritual medium Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) describes the looming entity, leaving a sinister and disturbing image for the audience to ponder.
Being one of the scariest films I’ve seen all year, Insidious is a must watch film for those sick of the same boring and bland horror flicks. With a demon that looks like the love child of Freddy Kruger, the thing from Jeepers Creepers and Darth Maul, plus a twist that will put you off taking pictures for a while, what else could you want?
Peace out!

A new Pandemic - AS English Language Coursework
Just a piece of coursework for my AS level coursework, any feedback would be appreciated
A new Pandemic
I’m going to speak my mind, so this shouldn’t take long. In this modern civilised world of ours we are constantly reminded of the growing number of threats that could ruin our perfect little existence. While we are left blinded by news of how the terrorists are coming to get us, how drugs are destroying the country’s youth, while we are being openly stalked by a different kind of threat. This threat greets us with a big cheesy grin when we wake up in the morning; it accompanies us on our daily journey to work, it sits behind the kiosk when while we buy our paper and looms on every street corner in plain view. This threat, this new pandemic, is of course our good old friend advertising.
By the way if anyone here is in advertising or marketing... kill yourself. – Bill Hicks
On average we see 3,000 ads per day. At the petrol station, in the cinema, on TV, during sporting events it would seem that there’s no place to run, no place to hide as ads have become impossible to avoid. There have been particular moments in my short time on this earth where I felt completely assaulted by media and advertising, when it crossed the line between expected annoyingness to an offensive breach of personal space and boundaries. During a trip to visit family we stopped off at a service station , taking a quick bathroom break I sat down in the toilet stall, with my jeans round my ankles when at my most vulnerable I’m bombarded from all directions by adverts. In front of me I’m being told how I can save massive amounts on my car insurance, from the sides I’m being drawn into buying a new miracle cream that can help prevent the development of dark circles. I think to myself what the hell is going on? My greater wonder is, what do they think is going to happen by crossing these lines? Do they really think people are going to buy their products because they advertised them in a place where few others dare go?
Fuck off with your sofa units and string green stripe patterns, I say never be complete, I say stop being perfect, I say let... lets evolve, let the chips fall where they may. – Tyler Durden
Advertising has caused a consumer nightmare; it would seem that in this modern and tolerant world of ours where all people are to be seen as equals, if you don't have the latest up to date straight off the assembly line product you are treated as an outcast and like the lepers of Rome are to be avoided at all costs. This is most common among the younger more impressionable generations. We are told if we don't have this product we need it, we need it to fit in and to be accepted by the people who judge us for not having these things.
Advertising is the art of making whole lies out of half truths - Edgar A. Shoaff
Beauty, a word that because of advertising has become a stereotype in its self. We are led to believe that we should look how Calvin Klein and Gucci tell us we should, I feel real sympathy for people packed in to gyms trying to get those rock hard abs that the guy on the TV advert has, or the women buying any product that Cheryl Cole tells them to. Companies use these celebrities to make us feel inadequate about ourselves, to make us feel like we need their products to be complete, to make us think that their products make us better. But let me ask you the question, is someone wearing a Ralph Lauren Polo shirt better than someone wearing a Primark t shirt? Does eating walker’s crisps make you better than someone who eats Morrison’s own brand crisps? Of course not, but that is what advertising is spending millions of pounds a year to make you believe. But the truth is that the things you own end up owning you, and then dictate how you perceive and treat others.
You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet- Tyler Durden
I’m part of the generation that’s been raised on television and adverts to believe that one day id be a millionaire, a movie star, a music legend, but this is just part of advertisings big plan to get you caught in the never ending cycle of consumerism, to shape you into the perfect little shopper that doesn’t ask questions and just keeps buying and buying. It’s not until we break these bonds that tie us to our meaningful piles of crap that we will be able to move forward and evolve. If you’re still with me at this point your probably wandering what is the point to all this? And to be fair there isn’t a point. Advertising has become part of the family, we embrace it every day and there is no way of escaping it. Freewill has just become another illusion created to make us think we are in control but once again we are not.
Peace out!

Finally an sign of an original film, so sick of re makes and these so called "Re boots", sorry but I refuse to believe that all the good film ideas have been done. Stop defiling classics, stop recycling Franchises and come up with some new, smart and original movies.
I mean is it really just me that's bored of paying money to see the same film over and over again, just with a different actor/actress or title. For example Jason Statham, how many occupations is he going to get through in his movie career? He has already punched and roundhouse kicked way through three transporter movies and The Mechanic, what's next The Plumber? The Electrician?
Im not hating on Jason Statham, its just that hes a prime specimen of a star that needs to go back to the beginning.
But my incessant rambling comes to no avail as this year movie goers are left to prepare for the likes of Connan The Barbarian, The Three musketeers and unbelievably Footlose.

Just paid like £7.40 to watch a film I've been hyping over for the good part of a month, after the first 10 minutes I slowly start to sink into my seat and realise this film isn't what I thought it would be. But there may still be hope, after getting through a weak and unbelievable start, the movie and story begins to open up and I climb up right into my seat.
Being a British comedy I had certain expectations of it trying to live up and contend with the likes of Shaun of the Dead, but thankfully Attack the block doesn't pucnh above its weight trying to be a film its not. The film knows its staring actors that nobody knows, it knows it hasn't got the solid plot line it should have. but strangely, it works.
With the odd hit and miss with jokes(most of them can be found in the trailer btw), Attack the Block is well worth a watch if your looking for a film that doesn't take itself too seriously and still is decent enough to spend money on.
